This toolkit is free. Forever.

Free to print, copy, translate and adapt. Attribution appreciated, not required. There is no paid tier, no premium pack and no plan to make one.

If anyone charged you for this, you were scammed.

Nobody is authorised to sell the Project Sahitya toolkit, to charge a registration or training fee on our behalf, or to bill a school for access to the lessons. Not a reseller, not a consultant, not a district office. If you paid money for any part of it, please tell us — we will try to help you get it back, and we will make sure it does not happen to the next school.

What you may do

Print it. As many copies as your classroom, school or district needs.
Copy it and pass it on. Forward a lesson to another teacher, put it on a staffroom noticeboard, load it onto a phone and share it.
Translate it. Into any language your children speak. We would love a copy of what you produce, but you do not owe us one.
Adapt it. Cut a step, change a word, swap the objects for the ones you actually have. Teachers have improved every version of this material.

What we ask

Do not sell it. Not the lessons, not a repackaged version, not access to them. Recovering your own printing cost is fine; charging for the material is not.
Keep it free downstream. If you share an adapted version, share it under these same terms so the next teacher gets it free too.
Attribution is appreciated, not required.A line saying “adapted from Project Sahitya, projectsahitya.org” helps other teachers find the rest. Leaving it off does not put you in breach of anything.
Do not imply we endorse you. Using the material does not make an organisation a Sahitya partner, and adapted versions should not carry our name as though we wrote them.

In legal terms

These terms are Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike in spirit (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), with the attribution requirement deliberately relaxed to a request. Where the plain English above and the formal licence differ, the plain English above is what we will act on.

Why it is free

A paywall on early literacy excludes exactly the classrooms that need it most. The toolkit is free today and it will be free when it is a hundred times larger. Free content being copied is not a threat to this project — it is the project succeeding.

Registration exists for a different reason. Schools that register get the full six months delivered day by day over WhatsApp, and we get to know who is teaching, so we can help when something goes wrong and can keep children safe. It has never been about charging anyone.

Photographs and children

This licence covers the teaching material only. Photographs of children are not covered and are never published without the guardian consent on file for that child. See our privacy policy for how we handle images and personal data.
